RUN ON ART
“IDENTITY IN BETWEEN”
RUN ON ART project on the notion of Identity and its multiple nature 2020-2021
Texts-Interviews: Charis Kanellopoulou, Paraskevi Tektonidou Photography: Emma Louise
The term ‘identity’ is evidently used today in order to describe the characteristics, choices and activities which allow us to discern ourselves, sometimes by joining and other times by separating ourselves from others. Now more than ever, we are living in an era composed of identities, admitting that there is not a single self and that identity does not concern something singular, impervious and stable, but rather a notion with multiple meanings, polyphonic and flowing, opening a broad field of conversation, reevaluation and new narration.
Attempting to delve into the multiple terms (social, cultural, psychological) on the basis of which identities are formed, the project IDENTITY IN BETWEEN is organized by RUN ON ART, inviting five women artists to create new performance projects and to share their artistic expression and ideas on the notion of the multiple prisms of one’s being.
In these projects, Tzeni Argyriou is concerned with the relation between technology and human existence in the digital world, Marianna Kavallieratos steps into other peoples’ shoes during multiple everyday routes, Virginia Mastrogiannaki touches on the issue of different images per age and attempts a return to youthfulness, Maria Sideri delves into the boundaries between wholesomeness and toxicity, as seen in the relationship between man and nature and Eliza Soroga takes on multiple professional identities during work interviews.
The performances took place and were filmed by the RUN ON ART group at the Former Airport at Elliniko during October 2020 and they were complemented by interviews by the artists. The short documentaries which will emanate from the director’s approach of this material will be exposed as an installation at MOMus-Museum of Modern Art at Thessaloniki during the second semester of 2021.
The IDENTITY IN BETWEEN project is realized by the Run On Art Non Profit Organization, in collaboration with the MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art-Collections of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and the State Museum of Contemporary Art, with the support of NEON Organization for Culture and Development and the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
Run On Art is a non-profit organization, aspiring to support the production of contemporary Greek-Cypriot art, to promote interdisciplinary and cross-border collaboration and to promote with pioneering means the Greek-Cypriot artistic work in new audiences across the world, inviting artists and spectators to actively participate in the joint formulation of a different creative and social milieu.

RUN ON ART presents “ART STORIES ART SECRETS”
Just like every personal journey hides its own unique story, so do the narrations written by Greek Cypriots artists, who reveal their goals and dreams to the camera of “RUN ON ART” in a production aiming to follow their creative universe. The spotlight is set on ten Greek Cypriot artists who become the protagonists in a series of interviews.
Which is their source of inspiration? How does an artist work in his/her studio? What are they searching for? What are the means and materials they use? The answers to all these questions are passed on to the viewers in a very simple and yet direct way and their stories are not far from our own experiences.
The aim of these video clips/spots is to give birth to a new way of projecting contemporary art, having a support network of people and organizations, will focus on presenting and highlighting the local cultural wealth within and outside the border. Simultaneously, they will constitute an informative and educational source for schools, universities and any other art spaces.
The artists taking part are: Alexandros Yiorgkatzis, Anastasia Mina, Pashias, Dimitrios Ikonomou, Eleni Panayidou, Eleni Phyla, Lefteris Tapas, Marianna Konstanti, Marina Yerali, Christos Michealides.
Initiator and Director of the project is Efi Spyrou. Being also herself a visual artist who works and lives in Athens, Efi is the creator of “RUN ON ART” initiative, committed to empowering contemporary art, reactivating interdisciplinary synergies and helping local art communities to outreach international audiences through innovative mediums.
